Electric vs Petrol Scooter / Bike Calculator

Compare the real cost of owning an electric two-wheeler against a petrol one — running cost per km, total cost over your ownership period, the PM E-DRIVE incentive, and when the EV pays back.

Starting values are partly illustrative. Fuel prices, the electricity rate, GST and government incentives come from official sources (listed at the bottom of the page). Vehicle prices, mileage, range and resale value are placeholders — replace them with your own dealer quotes and the vehicles you're actually considering.

Petrol price: Delhi (New Delhi) ₹102.12/litre; every state and UT capital is pre-filled from the official table.
PM E-DRIVE incentive for electric two-wheelers: ₹2,500 per kWh of battery, capped at ₹5,000 per vehicle and at 15% of ex-factory price, for models up to ₹1.5 lakh ex-factory, registered 1 Apr 2025 – 31 Mar 2028. It is fund-limited and the government may revise it.
Electricity: ₹3.35/unit for Delhi (BRPL / BYPL / TPDDL) at about 200 units a month — CEA's effective domestic rate (fixed + energy charges + duty), tariff order in force since Oct 2021.
GST: 5% on electric vehicles; 18% on petrol motorcycles and scooters up to 350cc (40% above 350cc). Prices you see already include GST.
💡 Estimates only. The ex-factory price used to check incentive eligibility is approximated from the ex-showroom price (your dealer applies the exact figure at invoice). Battery life, resale values and energy prices change over time, so treat the result as a comparison of scenarios, not a guarantee.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is an electric scooter cheaper to run than a petrol one?
Usually yes, per kilometre. A petrol two-wheeler's fuel cost is the petrol price divided by its mileage; an electric one's is the battery size divided by its real-world range, adjusted for charging losses, times your electricity rate. The EV costs more to buy, so whether it is cheaper overall depends on how far you ride and how long you keep it — this calculator shows the total cost and the year the EV catches up.
What is the PM E-DRIVE incentive for electric two-wheelers?
Under the Government of India's PM E-DRIVE scheme, an electric two-wheeler registered between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2028 gets an incentive of ₹2,500 per kWh of battery, capped at ₹5,000 per vehicle and at 15% of the ex-factory price, for models with an ex-factory price up to ₹1.5 lakh. It is fund-limited and subject to review, and it is normally passed on by the dealer as a lower invoice price, so check whether your quoted price already includes it.
Does this work for delivery and gig riders?
Yes. Use the heavy-use preset (about 3,000 km a month) or enter your own distance. The more you ride, the faster an EV's lower per-km cost repays its higher purchase price — but check battery warranty terms and add a battery replacement cost and year if you expect to need one.
Where does the electricity rate come from?
It is pre-filled from the Central Electricity Authority's state-wise domestic "effective rate" (edition as on 31 March 2026): fixed and energy charges from your state regulator's tariff order, worked out for a household using a given number of units a month, plus electricity duty. Pick your utility or area and your household's monthly use (including the EV charging). It leaves out state subsidies, fuel-cost surcharges and meter rent, so if your own bill shows a different rate per unit, type it in.
Are the petrol prices accurate for my city?
The calculator pre-fills the petrol price of your state or UT capital as published by PPAC (data from IOCL, 1 July 2026). Prices differ by a few rupees from city to city because of local taxes and freight, so edit the figure to match your pump.
What values should I replace with my own?
Vehicle prices, mileage, range, servicing cost and resale value start as illustrative placeholders — they depend on the model. Replace them with your dealer's quote and the vehicles you are comparing. The electricity rate is pre-filled from official data but is easy to replace with the rate on your own bill.
Is my data stored or shared?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Scenarios you save are kept only in your own browser's storage.
