Frequently Asked Questions
What is this page for?
It's a market-intelligence view, not a calculator — it shows how India's Nifty 50 and Sensex annualised returns compare against major global indices (US, Japan, Hong Kong, UK and Europe) over the same lookback periods, from 1 year up to 25 years.
What does each column in the table mean?
Each column is the annualised return (CAGR) for that index over the N years ending on the most recent data date — not the return in that specific single calendar year. A 10Y column of 12% means the index compounded at roughly 12% a year, on average, over the last 10 years.
Why does a cell show '—' instead of a number?
That means the index doesn't have data reaching back that far — some of these indices were only added to this dataset partway through its history.
Does this affect the PPP Calculator or Index SIP Calculator?
No — this is a separate, read-only comparison view. The PPP Calculator uses World Bank purchasing-power data, and the Index SIP Calculator runs an actual SIP simulation against Indian indices only. This page exists purely to give context on how Indian markets have performed versus the rest of the world.
