Frequently Asked Questions
How much home loan can I get based on my salary?
Lenders in India typically cap total EMI obligations (including the new home loan) at 40–50% of your monthly take-home income. This calculator uses your income, expenses and existing loans to estimate an affordable home price.
How much down payment should I make for a home?
Most Indian lenders require a minimum 10–25% down payment (loan-to-value ratio rules), but a higher down payment reduces your EMI and total interest paid over the loan tenure.
Does home affordability depend only on EMI?
No — affordability should also account for registration and stamp duty costs, maintenance, property tax and a financial buffer for emergencies, in addition to the monthly EMI.
